Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag | '22

Blog Post Cover: midyear book freakout tag

Today, I'm doing a Mid-Year Book Freakout book tag! It's my first time doing this because I just started my book blog last year in December. Basically, we're just checking in and seeing what we achieved for the first half of the year. I've been wanting to do this ever since and now I have a chance!

Reading Challenge Update

Half of 2022, I already finished my GoodReads reading challenge by reading 50 books. Which was surprising because I thought I'm on a reading slump most of the time. Recently, I started reading non-fiction books too to challenge myself to go outside of my comfort books and genres I comfortably stayed with. I got tons of recommendation books by watching from my favorite productivity youtubers: Ali Abdaal and Elizabeth Fellips. Their videos about books are helpful and made me start reading non-fiction books.

Best books you've read so far in 2022?

These three books earned a complete five stars rate from me. Patrick Ness, And The Ocean Was Our Sky,was just so wonderfully written. Feather by Olivia Wildesntein really made its mark in my heart. A story between Leigh, an angel and Jarod, a Parisian Mafia. It is sweet, kind of slow burn, and heartbreaking. Always Only You, my first book from Chloe Liese was awesome too, one of my favorites.

Best sequels you've read in 2022?

Best sequels I've read was Hunting November by Adriana Mather. Her, Killing November, was awesome and one of my favorite YA Mystery and Thriller novels with romance as a sub-genre. I really love this one!

New release you haven't read yet but want to?

Most anticipated release of the second half of the year?

A Cosmic Kind Of Love by Samantha Young, Lucy Checks In by Dee Ernst, The Decoy Girlfriend by Lillie Vale

Biggest disappointment?

Biggest disappointment would be Below Zero by Ali Hazelwood. I love Ali Hazelwood debut and just so-so for her first two novellas, but Below Zero was just disappointing and very anti-climatic. All characters are the same, a little spoiler: Hannah does not—even in her 100th lifetime—deserve a guy like Ian Floyd. Just my cents.

Biggest surprise?

Reading and finishing non-fiction books is a big surprise for me, hence Show Your Work! by Austin Kleon is the biggest one, I rated his book with five stars. Show Your Work! Is highly recommended for creatives, like bloggers, youtubers, and more on how to share your work meaningfully on the Internet.

Favorite new author

Lucy Score and Lauren Layne are my new authors to me and become one of my favorite ones too. Things We Never Got Over and To Sir, With Love with is a sweet and a great read!

Newest fictional crush

Everyone, make way for Ren Bergman from Always Only You by Chloe Liese. That man is the standard, a golden retriever kind of guy, he's the sunshine in Chloe Liese book. I would never forget him especially when he confessed his love for Frankie—my heart!

Newest favorite character

Newest favorite would be Naomi from Things We Never Got Over. She's relatable for me, really speaks to the depth of my personality (lol). She's a planner, likes to organize everything, and always sees the bright side in people, even to her "evil" sister. An academic achiever and would risk anything for her loved ones.

Book that made you cry?

Ah, erm.. I haven't cried because of a book this year. So, I have no answer to this question!

Book that made you happy?

To answer this, Share Your Work! really makes me happy and motivated to continue this blog.

Most beautiful book you've bought this year?

We Are the Song by Catherine Bakewell. Like can you see that book cover? Stunning! One of the reasons why I requested it as my ARC.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

I would like to read all the books in my most anticipated release in the second half of the year, also the following: Counterfeit by Kirstin Chen, Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus, and Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.

And that's my entry on Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag! Really had fun writing this and to see what I'd come to achieve by reading this year. Like 50 books? A year ago I thought that would be near to impossible but look at now. The most productive things I maybe did this year was just reading books and writing about books.

Let's Talk!

Have you written your own Mid-Year Book Freakout Tag? Share it with me, I will surely read it. How many books have you read this year? And what are your most anticipated books this year? Curious to know.
