Since it's already May, why don't you waste your time meaningfully and come celebrate with us? For this year, I'll join my first ever readathon! The Asian Readathon is a month-long reading marathon dedicated to reading books by Asian authors. This is an online event that is meant to be easy and accessible for everyone. Asian Readathon is hosted by withcindy.
There is an challenge and directory in StoryGraph so better check it out. It is so helpful because there is already a massive lists of books that you can choose.
This year’s challenge is loosely themed around ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ and is meant to be easy, accessible, and open to interpretation. These challenges can be combined if you want to make it even easier!
The twist: You can combine challenges and read in any order; however, EACH book you read should feature a character or author of a different Asian ethnicity. This is to encourage cultural diversity.
Example: I can read a book by a Japanese author to combine challenges #1, #2, and #3. But if I read a second book by a Japanese author, that would not count for any other challenge, therefore I still need to read a book with a different ethnicity to cover challenges #4 and #5.
Asian Readathon 2022 Prompts
1. Read a book written by an Asian author.
2. Read a book featuring an Asian character who is a woman AND/OR older.
3. Read a book by an Asian author that has a universe you would want to experience OR a universe that is totally different from yours.
4. Read a book by an Asian author that has a cover worthy of googly eyes. 👀
5. Read a book by an Asian author that has a high rating OR was highly recommended by someone.
For this readathon, I want to make my life easier and also because I know I'll be busy this month. So here are the books I have picked.
Crying in H Mart covers the first, fourth, and fifth prompt. Crying in H Mart is written by Michele Zavner, a Korean-American. And the cover is googly-eyed worthy. I like the ramen in chapsticks. This book was recommended by Reese Lansangan, my favorite Filipino singer-songwriter. She also interviewed Michele thanks to FullyBooked.
Six Crimson Cranes cover the first, third, and fourth prompts. This book has a totally different universe from mine and has a googly-eyed cover.
Dial A for Aunties covers the first and second prompt. It was written by an Asian author and featured an older woman.
And that's the books I planned to read for this readathon. How about you? Are you joining Asian Readathon? What are the books you wished to read? Let's chat!
