Bridgerton (Season One) | a review on crack

Review: Bridgerton (Season 1) The Duke and I

I saw how season two of Bridgerton blew up and I was curious about what this show gave us. Without any prior knowledge, I thought that season two was way better than season one without even watching it. (Yes, I'm pretentious like that. It's because of those clips I randomly see.) After watching the first season, I kind of regretted that. The first season was hot and steamy and it was so good that I thought why wouldn't I make a blog post about it so I could scream how much I love it—and hate some parts of it—through this post.

Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton, who was declared the diamond of the courting season, where young debutantes go to these grand and fancy balls to find some... balls! I mean, husband!

Daphne was declared the star, the diamond, as she received the blessing from the queen herself. As she said, "Flawless, my dear." And she finds herself meeting the Duke of Hastings, and I would stop there, so this would be a spoiler-free review. To be frank, I don't know how to structure this review.

about the characters

LADY VIOLET BRIDGERTON

Let's start with the mother of the Bridgertons, Violet Bridgerton. This mother is like the best mother. She takes care of her children. The death of her husband wasn't emphasised, but there's one scene where she wakes up and finds the comfort of her husband, who was dead, and I think it was so heartbreaking to raise your children alone. I love Violet so much and her friendship with Lady Danbury.

VISCOUNT ANTHONY BRIDGERTON

Ah, yes, the Viscount! In season one, he was portrayed as Daphne's protective brother, and I was having fun watching it. except when he forcefully sets Lord Borbroke up with Daphne. Ugh. It was the worst. Let's not talk about that side burns.

His relationship with Siena, as shown, was romantic, yes, but it felt so... empty. There was nothing between them that made me flush. He carried so much pressure as the new head of the Bridgertons that he made Siena his way of escape from his responsibilities. But, huge praise to the actress who played Siena. Siena was magnificent as an opera singer, and wise enough to let go of Antony. The next season was Anthony's and I am so excited to watch it!

LORD BENEDICT BRIDGERTON

This guy hit differently. He was an artist and really loved his craft. I'm wondering about his story. I haven't read it, but I'm curious about who would be his lady. His interaction with Eloise was so much fun to watch; they were the ultimate comedic duo.

LORD COLIN BRIDGERTON

Whenever I see Colin, I just want to squeeze his cheeks. This guy is cute, but an idiot. I don't know why he's into Marina; there's even no spark between them. He's kind of an idiot for a second there.

DUCHESS DAPHNE BRIDGERTON

I was about to write "Lady Daphne" but I forgot she's officially the Duchess. I have a lot to say about this girl. First of all, Phoebe is stunning. I have a huge crush on her. She played Daphne really well; she was elegant, smart, and talented, which every debutante should be, but this girl was breath-taking.

She's like every debutante. The only thing that made her stand out was her beauty, and she's basically the lead. She wants to be married and she loves kids, like she's what every mother longs to be. However, she was a great representation of what would happen if your children were kept in the dark. That's why sex education is a must! She was naive all the way until she met the Duke.

LADY ELOISE BRIDGERTON

Now listen up, people! She is probably the best character in this series, and the next will come. Personally, I think Eloise is just perfect. She was completely the opposite of Daphne, which was so fun to watch. Unlike Daphne, she doesn't want to have kids, be married, or be the trophy wife. (lmao)

She wanted to be independent, smart, and be the lady with no man. Eloise's confidence was top-notch. That's why she's so eager to find out about Lady Whistledown. Eloise's dialogues are hilarious and always say the wrong things depending on the situation, but they are wrongfully funny.

Eloise is a symbol of feminism in an age of mysogynists, sexism, and gender inequality.

LADY FRANCHESCA BRIDGERTON

To be honest, I'm still recalling who this girl is. She barely has any scenes and literally has no character depth. She basically disappears and pops out in an episode that I clearly forgot. But I am looking forward to seeing her.

LADY HYACINTH BRIDGERTON & LORD GREGORY BRIDGERTON

Well, there are just little children here. I had already forgotten about Gregory (my bad), but Hyacinth has a scene here and there and I know she's completely swooning over the Duke and I was like, "girl, same."

LADY DANBURY

Yes, this woman is amazing! She's the number one shipper of Daph-Mon (Daphne-Simoun). She takes care of Simoun and helped him overcome his impediment, which was so heartwarming. She's basically his mother figure.

Lady Danbury is sarcastic and hilarious. She's the most elegant of the ton (no offense to the Queen). I'm a fan of her friendship with Lady Violet and thier match-making. I'm looking forward to Lady Danbury.

LADY FEATHERINGTON

Most people saw Lady Featherington as the not-so-villain of the Bridgerton series. But to be honest, she is just like what every mother is. She's just doing her best for her children, being the best mother she can be. She jumped into a loveless marriage but found solace in her children, and I think it is so wonderful.

LADY MARINA THOMPSON

Marina has complexity in her character. I like her. She's strong, even though the Featherington sisters were being mean to her and her new found friendship with Penelope. But my fondness for her basically went downhill when she decided to deceive Colin. I know that she's doing it because of her situation, but it was complete foolishness.

Well, she eventually made the right decision. It's good for her to be honest.

LADY PENELOPE FEATHERINGTON

I don't have anything to say about the other Featherington Sisters, so I'll focus on Penelope. This girl is so relatable. Her friendship with Eloise is wonderful, and they're the best duo (besides Benedict and Eloise, of course).

I liked it when she didn't say anything or did anything to Marina, even though she was against what Marina planned with Colin. And the ending! I was like, "are you serious?" Is she that lady? Wow. I'm flabbergasted.

QUEEN CHARLOTTE

The queen is the queen, and the end. She likes it when she's always right and no one should be against her. Although I'm genuinely curious about her character and her life, Seeing the little scene with the King and how he acted, I want to know about that. And it's safe to assume that it'll be included in season two.

LADY WHISTLEDOWN

If I was given a chance, I would want to be Lady Whistledown. She doesn't have the physical character, but I'm all for her. She knows the gossip, every boiling teapot in the corner of the world, and just writes it down. She became influential and her news became the "gospel" of the whole town. That's the lady.

SIMOUN BASSET, DUKE OF HASTINGS

This guy? I repeat, this is The Man. Ragé-Jean is the best-looking guy in the entire season. I am simping over this man. Ragé-Jean played the Duke of Hastings very well. I am seriously speechless when it's his line. I can still hear his growl lingering in my head.

Besides that, Ragé-Jean was utterly sexy, but his big daddy issue wasn't. His issue became the biggest story conflict of the season, and—meh, I didn't like it at all. I know his reason was valid, but Daphne was right. He chose to be buried and pull down from his vegenance and the vow he took to someone that doesn't walk the earth anymore.

But the steamy scenes, though? Of course we got to talk about them! It was sexy and hot as hell! I wished they took it into moderation though. Basically, after he popped Daphne's cherry, they did it every single time. Put the emphasis on those last three words. I know, the steamy scenes were hot. I love watching them. But let's move on after one of the two scenes and focus on the story. Overall thoughts and feelings

about the whole drama

  • Costumes

The costumes were wonderfully made. I heard that they made more than seven thousand costumes for this entire season and I was in awe. Every dress was colorful, had its own style and character. I noticed that the Bridgertons' favourite colour are blue and pink. I like it.

But I want to focus more on Daphne's costume. Daphne is one of the stars of the show, but she didn't wear the dress, and neither did the dress for her. I thought when she became the Duchess or when she descended on the stircase in one scene after the Duke ended their ruse, she would be elegant and extravagant. But I was disappointed. It was plain, so simple. She was the season's main attraction, and her fashion choices remained consistent? Nu-uh.

  • The Necklace

If you forgot, the Prince of Prussia gave Daphne a necklace. And I'm more worried about the necklace when she leaves it on the bridge. This review is insane, I know. Don't expect any sensible ramblings in this post.

RATE

I rated Bridgerton (Season 1) with four stars!

Bridgerton is a historical-romance set in the Regency Era, and I can say how they made it more "colorful" because I'm sure the Regency Era didn't approach it like that. But I'm loving it so far and am excited for season two.
