Book Review: Mistress of Flame | CeCeLib's first fantasy book!

CeCeLib first fantasy book is here. Read my book review and see how I fangirl over her.

Title: Mistress of Flame
Author: Abigail De Silva (CeCeLib)
Series: Yther Queen #1
Genres: New Adult, Fantasy, Romance
Published on: Wattpad Website
Language: English

Abigail, also known as CeCeLib on Wattpad, is famous for her romance and erotica stories. She also published a couple of BL (boy's love) stories. But Mistress of Flame is her first fantasy book, and I was curious about how she would execute her new story in a foreign genre, so I read it!

I was shocked that the whole book was written in full English. She mostly writes in both English and Filipino, so that's the first. Other authors when they write in full English—to be frank—sound so awkward. I'm not used to reading their writing style in another medium. But I was complacent about Abigail's writing style, especially in English.

Mistress of Flame is the first book in the Yther Queens series. The four human kingdoms betryed the four Yther Queens of Azitera—the Queens who loved, blessed, and protected them from storms, famine, and poverty—were caged, imprisoned, and enslaved. The humans took their blood as the nutrients for their kingdoms.

As the four kingdoms continued to prosper for so many years, one piece of news caused them to tremble in fear. Sollel—the first blessed Yther queen, the Mistress of Flame—escaped from her prison. And she's ready to burn them in her scorching flames

This book is action-packed and full of elemental magic, which I adored so much. The prose was absolutely gorgeous, I liked how it derailed the narratives when this elemental magic was shown.

I like how poweful Sollel was. She is a literal queen. Because of the human betrayal, Sollel grew to hate them. And I just love how her hatred for humans didn't waver even a bit, even though she met a human and actually became close to her. In most of the fantasy books I've read, when the main leads grow hatred towards a certain character, the book turns and twists to show how wrong the male leads are.

The main driving force was to show and teach the leads how wrong they are and, eventually, they'll regret it. But in this book, it wasn't. And I love that so much.

The secondary characters here each have their own story, and I like that we actually have an eye on each character in their life. As Sollel's journey to free the other queens, she made friends with other races. It became the friendship versus the world vibe. I like how all of them are strong and actually have firm ground whenever a fighting scene is happening.

The romance between Sollel and Hakken was smoothly written! The romance between them was not fast-paced; the author took the time to develop solid chemistry and love between them. It was so good. The twist in their love story was executed very well. I like how it all eventually came to tie together and to actually make sense. I highly recommend reading this book. I would buy a physical copy of this if ever it is published.

Mistress of Flame is a page-turner, an un-put-able book that makes you want more. A fantasy-romance, with a strong female lead and a secret pining for three lifetimes, and a thirst for vegenance.
