She doesn't believe in love, she doesn't want to risk it, and she always sees the downside of falling in love. But because of him, she finally see the upsude of falling.
Becca Hart doesn't believe in love and finds comfort in between the pages of a book. Experiencing peer pressure about her being single led her to lie and say she was in a relationship. Thankfully, Brett Wells was there to save her.
Both of them decided to dwell on a fake relationship for their own reasons; to take the pressure and constant nagging of Becca's mother and to be the son Brett's father wanted him to be. Both of them explore the life of teenagers, being in a broken family, the downside of divorce, and having a family affair.
The Upside of Falling is written from an alternate point of view of Brett and Becca. Brett is a good guy and a "perfect" son who spends his time improving in various aspects of his life rather than focusing on girls. As a football varsity player, a student, and a son.
Becca is so relatable. She's a girl who is contented being in the shadows and being drowned in the romance books she reads. She's the best friend and buddy reading partner you want to be with.
One of the things I absolutely love about this is how both of them are able to forgive those people who hurt them easily. And how they indulged and took care of their family.
All the good things aside, let's talk about why I rated this 3 stars. Some parts are cliche, and the plot twists are predicatble. Yes, this is a short read, which is a good thing, but also the downside itself. It felt a bit rushed.
"So, if these were one of you books, who would we be?""That depends," I said. "What kind of book is it? A romance? Mystery? Fairy tale?""Fairy tale." Brett said seriously."I'm guessing you want to be the prince?""Only if you're the princess."
I rated this a 3 star because it was not "meh" but also did not wow me. Basic, in the middle, moderate. This book was published by Wattpad, I'm not a Wattpad hater, I've read amazing and well-written books from that website. But most of them are just simple, enough to be called stories.
The Upside of Falling is a fun, short, and quick read. A fulffy and lighthearted one that explore the themes of broken families, peer pressure, young adults, and young love. Recommened for those who like fake dating, teenage drama, or just a book you can easily read to accomplish your reading goal.
"Read to me.""Why?""Because you go somewhere else when you read. I want to go there with you."
